The second thing you need to do is get to know what is required in your state for homeschooling. You want to be sure that you know if you need to file a declaration of intent, keep records, track hours, maintain a portfolio, do an annual review, join an umbrella school, or do testing. Even though homeschooling is legal in all 50 states, requirements are vastly different in each state. Find links to your state’s requirements at HSLDA (Home School Legal Defense Association).
While friends and blogs can be helpful with the “hows,” Do NOT rely on them for the “whats” when it comes to state law and requirements, look it up! Start a notebook and keep a checklist of what is required annually and any related documents.
